BUFFALO – Mayor Byron W. Brown today informed the Seneca Nation of Indians that the City of Buffalo has officially discontinued all negotiations regarding the abandonment and sale of Fulton Street.

Mayor Brown has stated from the time he assumed office as Mayor, that he was prepared to enter into an agreement with the Seneca Nation if and only if the Seneca Nation would enter into a legally binding written agreement that is the in best interest of the City of Buffalo. On May 17, 2006 Mayor Brown provided the Seneca Nation with a Term Sheet that described the City’s position in the negotiations. The Term Sheet contained 24 separate points (see attached).
 
The most important points regarding economic benefits to the City of Buffalo, the Seneca Nation’s plans for future land acquisitions in Buffalo and promises to hire residents of the City of Buffalo and minorities and women were all rejected by the Seneca Nation. The Seneca Nation is not willing to enter into legally binding written commitments on these points.
 
As a result, Mayor Brown will request that the abandonment and sale of Fulton Street be withdrawn and that all negotiations cease.
