Joins Federal and New York State Representatives at City of Buffalo Site

BUFFALO – Mayor Byron W. Brown today joined federal and state representatives in the opening of the FEMA/NYS Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in the City of Buffalo.

Representatives of federal, state and voluntary agencies will be present at the DRC to assist city residents who are seeking information on federal housing assistance, state and federal assistance for property damage, federal Small Business Administration disaster loans for individuals and businesses, tax guidance, insurance, home repair, reconstruction and protection of home utilities.

“It is critical that city residents and business owners are able to access recovery assistance information from federal, state and voluntary agencies that can quickly and accurately provide details on what resources may be available by everyone who was affected by the October Surprise storm,” said Mayor Brown. “I thank the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the New York State Emergency Management Office for working with my Administration in quickly identifying a central location in Buffalo that is accessible by public transportation and also has space for vehicle parking. I urge all residents and business owners to avail themselves the opportunity to meet with the Disaster Recovery Center personnel as quickly as possible.”

The Buffalo Disaster Recovery Center, located at the Olmsted Center for the Visually Impaired at 1160 Main Street, will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Childcare will be available for families while they are visiting DRC representatives at the DRC located in Buffalo.
No cash, checks, debit cards or vouchers are distributed at the DRC. The center is for the dissemination of information to assist in victim recovery.
Disaster victims are urged to register for assistance first by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 1-800-462-7585 for the hearing or speech impaired. Victims can also register online at www.fema.gov or visit a DRC to meet face-to-face with recovery specialists.
