General Building Contractors of New York State Bestow 2006 “Build New York” Award for Phase I of Joint Schools Construction Project and the Redevelopment of The Church

BUFFALO – The General Building Contractors of New York State have announced that two high-profile Buffalo development projects will receive the organization’s prestigious 2006 “Build New York” award.

Jeff Zogg, Executive Director of the General Building Contractors of New York State announced that the Joint Schools Construction Project (Phase I) and the redevelopment of The Church (formerly the Delaware Asbury Church) will receive awards for Innovation in Project Delivery (new category) and Renovation Project respectively.

“This is a great honor for two very worthy development projects in Buffalo,” said Mayor Byron W. Brown. “To have one local development project awarded in a given year is an accomplishment, but to have two projects awarded is a significant, and unusual, achievement. I commend LPCiminelli and Lehigh Construction for their excellent work on these development projects.

"The schools reconstruction project has not only rebuilt our schools, but has also contributed to the growth of our community," James A. Williams, Superintendent, said. "The success of Phase I is something we can all be proud of."

"We are very honored to win our 8th Build NY award, particularly because the Buffalo Schools Project means so much to the future of Buffalo," said Louis Ciminelli, Chairman & CEO of LPCiminelli. "Phase I was a great success and we fully intend to deliver the same quality of work on time and on budget for all future phases."

"Lehigh is honored to receive this prestigious award from our construction industry peers across the state, and we thank Mayor Brown and the City of Buffalo for recognizing our work on a key project in downtown Buffalo's continuing renaissance," said Lehigh President David Knauss. "Ani DiFranco and Scot Fisher deserve all of the credit for giving us the opportunity to restore The Church.  Lehigh has now been fortunate to complete a number of historic preservation projects in Buffalo."
