Down Payment & Closing Programs

The City of Buffalo offers programs, though our partner agencies, to help assist homebuyers in attaining the American dream of homeownership.

The American Dream Down payment Initiative (ADDI):  The American Dream Down payment Initiative (ADDI) provides down payment and closing cost assistance and interest buy down to low and moderate income first time homebuyers purchasing in the City of Buffalo. Assistance is provided in the form of a long term, deferred payment, interest free loan in the amount of up to $5,000.

To be eligible for assistance, applicants must:

  • Be a first time homeowners
  • Complete Homebuyer Education and Counseling offered by HomeFront Inc.
  • Purchase their home with the City of Buffalo and use it as their primary residence
  • Remain in the home for 5 years from the date of closing
  • Pass a home inspection conducted by HomeFront Inc.
  • Be income eligible on the following HUD guidelines:

Move to Buffalo Initiative:  Mayor Byron W. Brown has committed $250,000 to the Livable Communities Housing Incentive Program aimed at attracting City of Buffalo Teachers, Firefighters and Police Officers to live in the City.
