Mayor Brown Releases 2009-10 Block Grant Action Plan

Federal Funding Targeted to Neighborhood Revitalization and Stabilization Efforts
      

Mayor Byron W. Brown today released the 2009-10 Community Development Block Grant Action Plan by filing the document with the Buffalo Common Council.

In his transmission to the Common Council, Mayor Brown stated, “This budget reflects my administration’s commitment to neighborhood revitalization and stabilization by increasing allocations for both housing rehabilitation and demolition.  In addition, critical human service funding was maintained with increases to several agencies throughout every part of the City of Buffalo.  In some instances, higher allocations were necessary to accommodate an expected heightened demand due to the closing of a long-standing neighborhood agency.”

As part of this year’s plan, funding for housing rehabilitation has been increased by $1 million to a total of $3.3 million, and funding for demolitions has been increased by $200,000 to a total of $500,000.  Also new to this year’s plan is a Weatherization Program, which has been added to provide insulation, weather stripping improvements and energy efficient improvements for eligible homeowners.

The total dollar amount for this plan has been set at $21,695,334.00. 

To comply with U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development guidelines, this plan was developed in consultation with both Erie County and New York State representatives, as well as many public and private agencies that provide assistance with housing, health services and social services.  It has also been designed to carry out the objectives of the City’s approved 2008-2012 Consolidation Plan.
