Fire Prevention Month October 2015
October is National Fire Prevention Month and firehouses throughout the city are hosting open houses to encourage increased fire safety and prevention in Buffalo
September 29, 2015 – Mayor Byron Brown today announced that the City of Buffalo will celebrate National Fire Prevention Month by hosting five open houses at firehouses citywide. Free smoke detectors, coloring books and fire prevention safety tips will be distributed. The events are designed to educate children and families about fire safety and invite residents to get a behind-the-scenes view of the job of a firefighter.
“I’m proud of the Buffalo Fire Department’s continued commitment to the safety of city residents and business owners, not just during fire prevention month, but year-round," said Mayor Brown. "This month, I encourage city youth and their parents to visit an open house where they will receive important information on how working smoke alarms can make a life-saving difference in a fire, along with other life-saving safety tips. We all know that the best way to prevent injury and property loss due to a fire is to be prepared.”
Residents are invited to attend the following Fire Prevention and Safety Open Houses in Buffalo:
Saturday, October 3, 2015
Saturday, October 24, 2015
Fire officials, firefighters and other experts will be on-hand during the Open Houses to meet and greet residents, give them tours of the firehouse, and provide fire safety and prevention tips. While monthly testing of smoke detectors is encouraged, Mayor Brown also urged city residents to adopt the life-saving habit of replacing the batteries in their smoke detectors when they turn the clocks back at 2 a.m. on Sunday, November 1, 2015.
