Buffalo Chicken Wings, Other Items Put on the Line for Hometown Heroes

Buffalo, NY – Mayor Byron Brown today announced a "friendly" wager with his Ottawa, Ontario counterpart Mayor Bob Chiarelli for the upcoming National Hockey League Eastern Conference semifinal series between the Buffalo Sabres and the Ottawa Senators.

"The Sabres have proved they are among the elite teams in the National Hockey League and they will carry the pride and strong support of Buffalo and Western New York into this series with the Ottawa Senators," said Mayor Brown.  "I know Ottawa played very well against the Sabres early in the season, but since November 10th no team has more victories in the NHL than the Sabres.  They've played with great discipline, drive and determination.  I am confident their talent and team speed will carry them through to victory over the Senators."

Mayor Brown placed one of the city's great delicacies – Buffalo Chicken Wings – in his wager with Mayor Chiarelli.  The Mayors also agreed to wear the winning team's hockey sweater before their respective City Councils following the conclusion of the series and fly the victorious team's flag from a City Hall flagpole on the day following the end of the series.

"I know Buffalo has a strong team but we have the experience, the management, and the community spirit to bring the series home," said Mayor Chiarelli. "The Ottawa Senators are the number one offensive team in the NHL with the most goals in the 05/06 season. Ottawa loves Buffalo Chicken Wings."

"I look forward to seeing Mayor Chiarelli wear our Sabres sweater before his City Council and have our team flag fly proudly in front of Ottawa City Hall," stated Mayor Brown. "This will be a great series between two very talented hockey teams, but we all know the heart and desire of the Buffalo Sabres will prevail on their path to winning the Stanley Cup – Go Sabres!"
